The Institute of Applied Linguistics
The Institute of Applied Linguistics, or simply IAL, is a non-profit, non-sectarian educational institution founded to provide training to men and women involved in language development. IAL is committed to seeing communities achieve progress through the development of language resources found in the community.
IAL Purpose Statement
Enabling Communities...
Offering communities resources, especially training courses for community members, to enable them to meet their language development goals.
Through Education and Training...
IAL courses focus on modern techniques of linguistic analysis and literature production. Courses are immediately followed by practical application of principles learned.
For the Development of Local Languages...
IAL seeks to foster local language development so that communities will be able to use their language resources to the maximum potential.

IAL's Activities
To fulfil the language development goals of IAL, members:
- Train people working in the field of linguistics, literacy and language development.
- Promote research into the languages and cultures of Pakistan.
- Publish books and articles and provide computer-based resources relating to that research.
- Produce literature that will assist language maintenance and development.
- Promote the translation of literature of social and moral value.
- Provide resources and assistance in language-use and literacy programmes.
- Foster local language development so that communities will be able to use their language resources to the maximum potential.
